Unauthorized ACH/Wire Transfer Alerts

A transfer of $2,500 was initiated from your account

You receive an email or text claiming a large transfer has been initiated from your account. The message asks you to click a link and confirm your login details or banking password to "cancel" the transaction.

What to Watch For

  • Banks never ask you to verify credentials via email to cancel a transaction
  • The link goes to a domain that looks similar but isn't your bank
  • Message references a partial account number to seem legitimate
  • Creates panic about losing a large sum of money

Examples

""ALERT: An ACH transfer of $2,500.00 has been initiated from account ending in 4821. If this was not you, confirm your identity at secure-chase-bank.com to cancel immediately.""

Why it works: Mentions a specific dollar amount and partial account number, making it feel real. The urgency of "cancel immediately" pushes you to act without checking.

What to Do

Call your bank directly using the number on the back of your card or their official website. Do not click any links in the message. Legitimate fraud alerts from your bank will direct you to call them, not to visit a website.
