Credit Card Verification Scams

Your credit card will be suspended unless verified

Emails claiming to be from Visa, Mastercard, or your credit card issuer, stating that your card will be frozen unless you verify your identity. They ask for your full card number, CVV code, and sometimes your SSN.

What to Watch For

  • Card networks (Visa, Mastercard) never ask for your full card details via email
  • Request for your CVV code — no legitimate company asks for this by email
  • Verification page asks for information beyond what's needed
  • Sender email uses a free email provider or suspicious domain

Examples

""Your Visa card will be suspended due to incomplete verification. To maintain your account, visit visa-card-verify.com and enter your card details within 12 hours.""

Why it works: Uses the Visa brand name and creates a short deadline. The threat of card suspension makes people comply quickly.

What to Do

Card networks never email you asking for card details. If you're concerned about your card, log in to your card issuer's official website directly or call the number on the back of your card.
