Software License "Expiry" Warnings

Your Adobe / Microsoft 365 / Norton license expires in 24 hours

Emails or pop-up warnings claiming your software license is about to expire and you must renew immediately. Some claim you'll lose access to all your files if you don't act. The "renewal" page steals your credit card information.

What to Watch For

  • Software companies send renewal notices through their own platform, not random emails
  • Urgency language with countdown timers or "last chance" warnings
  • Renewal price is significantly different from what you've been charged
  • Pop-ups that appear while you're using the software (they're browser ads, not from the program)

Examples

""URGENT: Your Microsoft 365 license expires in 24 hours. All your files will be locked. Renew now for $89.99 at office365-renewal.com before it's too late.""

Why it works: The threat of losing access to your files (documents, photos) creates panic. People who rely on these programs daily are especially vulnerable.

What to Do

Check your subscription status by signing in to the software company's official account portal. Microsoft, Adobe, and Norton never threaten to lock your files via email. Your files are stored locally and are safe regardless of subscription status.
