Fake Subscription Renewals

Your membership is expiring — renew now!

Emails pretending to be from streaming services, software companies, or retailers claiming your subscription will renew at a high price unless you cancel. Some create urgency with countdown timers.

What to Watch For

  • Sender domain does not match the claimed company
  • Pressure to cancel within a very short time window
  • Renewal price far higher than what you actually pay (or were told you pay)
  • Links lead to unfamiliar domains, not the official company site

Examples

""Your Amazon Prime membership will renew at $299.99 in 48 hours. To cancel, go to prime-cancel-amazon.tk/cancel.""

Why it works: Creates financial urgency with a large dollar amount and short deadline. The domain looks legitimate until you notice the fake TLD.

What to Do

Log into your account through the official website or app directly. If you have an active subscription, it will show there regardless of what the email says.
